The History of the Pittsburgh Chapter...
As ASWA began in 1938, by 1994, there were chapters from coast to coast, and the newest chapter, #13
Cleveland, was holding its first meeting. The Cleveland Chapter was very active in sponsoring new ASWA chapters..
#15 Toledo, #16 Columbus, #23 Buffalo, and then in 1951, Chapter #28 Pittsburgh! Our first President, Leona J.
Robertson, was elected for the 1951-1952 term. Pittsburgh was off and running!

Today, 5
8 years later, the Pittsburgh Chapter has approximately 20 members, ranging from students to partners,
working as public accountants, retail accountants, college professors, self-employed individuals and in many other
fields of accounting. Our members hold certifications as CPAs, CMAs, PHds, CLU/ChFC and are Enrolled Agents
to name a few.

Our chapter, actively supports women in all fields of accounting, starting with students. Our "book" scholarship is
given to a top area accounting student each year selected by our Scholarship Committee.

The Pittsburgh membership has participated in regional and national events. In the past, we have hosted several
Regional Conferences and many of our members have attended the National Conference that is held each year.

The Pittsburgh Chapter has also been active in other community organizations. The Women's Center and Shelter has
become the primary recipient of our support to a non-accounting organization. We have participated in many
fundraising events and most recently the Spring Clothes Out held annually. Our members have donated gifts for shelter
residents; and several members have volunteered their time directly to the Center.

Our Chapter holds monthly meetings beginning in September and running through until the following June.  We meet
every third Tuesday or Wednesday of the month.  Guest speakers provide information on a wide variety of topics.
Topics include not only accounting but also topics on management, leadership, career development
, general business
and events just for networking
.  These meetings are designed to qualify for continuing education credits.

The Pittsburgh Chapter of ASWA is dedicated to supporting the mission of our national organization.
